Many of us don’t design our weeks — we inherit them. Appointments, obligations, and responsibilities fill the calendar, and before we know it, the week is full. But a full week isn’t always a meaningful one.

Designing (on purpose) your ideal week as a template and touchstone

In this episode of The Productive Woman, we explore how to design an ideal week — a flexible template shaped by your values, priorities, and real-life responsibilities — so your time reflects what matters most.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The difference between a busy week and an intentional week

  • What an “ideal week” really means (and what it doesn’t)

  • Why an ideal week is a template, not a rigid schedule

  • Starting with values before planning your time

  • Identifying anchors in your week:

    • work commitments
    • family responsibilities
    • standing appointments
    • routines
  • Adding space for what matters most

  • The importance of building margin into your week

  • How to stay flexible when plans change

  • Using your ideal week as a compass, not a contract

  • Making small adjustments instead of dramatic overhauls

Key Takeaways

  • Your calendar should reflect what matters most.
  • An ideal week provides direction, not pressure.
  • Margin makes your week sustainable.
  • Flexibility keeps your plans realistic.
  • Small shifts can create meaningful change.

Reflection Questions

  • What would I include more of in my ideal week?

  • What would I include less of?

  • What values do I want reflected in my time?

  • What small adjustment could I make next week?

Laura you asked for feedback on your podcast so I wanted to give some. At this time of year I listen to you mostly while I am in the tractor farming! I love your podcast and I love the new format! It feels like it is building on itself in small incremental ways. I am so glad you have been able to come back and do it again cause I missed it a lot while you were gone. Thanks so much for your time and help!
